Bassarov recieves a phone call that he was hired for the position. He walks down to the rebel base to inform Zero. He is not sure where he is so he starts looking around.

I am on my way back to my office to change my shirt when I see Bassarov, who looks quite please. "So what happened?" I ask nicely, trying to forget for the moment the crisis brewing all around us,

"I got the job. So I will be starting next week." Bassarov replies happily. "It isn't that important, but it should help build up the rebel movement if I at least have some income."

"Yes, and having a full-time job will help prevent you from going insane from stress or boredom. I'm glad for you..." I lead him into my office and pick up the thin, handbound book. "I made this for you. I didn't figure you'd want it as a Christmas present, but it isn't Christmas anymore. I hope you like it."

"Thanks, that was very thoughtful of you. I don't have anything for you. So, I'm sorry. I think you mentioned that you never celebrated the holidays though.."

I said I never had... I made this for you when we were apart, for something to do to express my love for you. Most of those are classic Russian poems translated into Japanese, since Japanese characters are more artful then Roman or Cyrillic ones, but I did write a few short ones near the end. I can translate them for you if you want." Each page consists of several vertical rows of complex, beautifully drawn characters.

"Aheh, right..."
Stephen takes off his jacket and then his shirt. The chair feels cold against his back.

"Some old cyrillic texts look nice. Seeing the letters remind me of my life. But you are right, japanese does look elegant. I would like for you to translate for me. I would enjoy hearing you read..."

"Very well..." I flip to the pages that I composed myself, and read a couple short poems about Bassarov helping me to find my life, tracing my finger down the columns of characters as I go. The actual poetry is sub-par, but I am little more than an amatuer at this.

(Tech moderator: The way the ship is compartmented the explosion of the coal dust would blow the top off the bunker and set fire to all the coal inside, not split the ship in half. The armor is far too strong for that to happen, though the ship would still be disabled for a significant time. Besides that the ship had already pulled into it's dry dock and therefore can't sink more than about three feet! Please fix it.)

"That was very nice. Thanks, I never knew you could write poetry." Bassarov replies. He feels worried about the fate of the rebels. "I think we should meet with Freak Boy to see if he has learned anything new."

"He's sitting in the front coach of my train, completely plastered. Speaking of we can depart as soon as you're ready, though if you want us to stay I'd rather you tell me sooner instead of later..."

I sigh. "Okay then, I'll shut down the locomotive. Anyone who wants to hide can relocate to one of the service depots in the city metro. And do you plan to teleport to work or should I try to find you some transportation? I ask him,

"I will either teleport or take the city train. I like riding on trains and I told myself 50 years ago that I would never own my own vehicle."
