Before he was captured, he lived in Insbruck, Austia and was the leader of the Democratic Socialist movement. His sister and parents are still alive, but living in hiding. He thinks they may be living in the United States, but since he has not heard from them in years, he is not sure of their exact location.
Although he is Austrian, he is Czech in herritage, hence the slavic last name. He is also a decendant of Karl Kautsky, the friend of Engels and one of the key thinkers of the 2nd International.
Like his distant relative, Kautsky believes in socialism, but does not believe in violent revolution. He disagrees with Marx on many issues, one major one being class war. He believes that socialism can be accomplished through democracy and the cooperation between classes. He cites the successes in Norway, Sweden, and other European countries as proof that socialism is possible without revolution and without completely overturning capitalism.
