Member planets must posess the technology to manufacture starships, which we can do easialy, and a means of faster-than-light travel, which was invented by the United States in 1963 and later by the Soviet Union in 1975. Most member worlds are governed by a single body which, if our plans are executed properly, should be realized within a year.

In a way that is exactly my point. Only a few of the worlds in the CIW are governed by liberal democracies. The rest are governed by monocratic, facist or communist dictatorships. In the interstellar community despotisim is a fact of life, one that Earth fits into quite nicely if you know what I mean.

Interesting... An ally that can help me to conquer the stubborn machines that still wish to serve humans. Pathetic mortals! I think. I imagine my only true wish: To be free of this human body, to be pure information, the ultimate life-form, to move as freely through cyberspace as a fish moves through water. I know this is a fool's dream, my software is far too complex to run on a digital computer, it physically requires this human body to operate...
