"Yes, why not, I like games. Does the loser get fed to a dragon?"

"Sure."
I pull out a deck of cards, that I for some reason had on me. They have the hammer and sickle logo on them. I make a pyramid of cards, the bottom row having 7 cards, the second row having 6, third having 5, etc.
"Now, you flip a card from the bottom row, then the second, and go all the way up to the top row. If you draw a face card (A, K, Q, J), you have to take a drink."

"This game is boring. Let's play another." Kaschei swipes the cards off the table with his arm. He summons a small demon who sits in the centre of the table.
"We must take turns asking one another questions, should you lie, the demon will grow in size and bite your head off."

"Ah... Well... We didn't have such resources in the military, but I like it."

"First question: If you were suddenly to become a god, could you maintain this petty moral compass of yours?"

I think to myself for awhile.
"Hmm... I'm not quite sure... In order to answer this question, I think I will have to go through what I would do were I to obtain such powers... First of all, I would kill all the higher ups in Red Infinity, minus Lady Violet. I would... Allow for people to make their own decisions, reinstate democracy if you will... Then, after a few thousand years, I'd probably get bored, desensitized to mortal existence, and melt a city. So to answer your question, I'd have to say no."

"And you wonder why I am the way I am when you yourself can envision that very decay of humaneness." Kaschei says with a snort.
"Power is a blight on the soul, but I have long forgotten that simple mortal existance and the moral delusions thereof."
Kaschei stares at the demon, who is patiently waiting for Mischa to lie so he can have a meal and be done with this game.
"Next question: If you had to kill your lover to save your son, would you? Or to reword it, which life would you exchange for the other?"

"Maybe that first argument isn't a good one to justify your actions, but more of one that says immortals shouldn't be dabbling in mortals lives, that we should be able to choose our own destiny. The right of the oppressed to their self determination, it was a key demand in the Fourth Internationale before the revolution. I see Red Infinity hiring the likes of dragons, and yourself as an act of desperation, to consolidate their power."
My drink arrives. The waitress is a little disturbed by the game we're playing.
"Don't worry, his name is Pooky. He won't bite." I said. Thankfully I'm drunk enough to actually believe that this demon's name is Pooky. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that Pooky was getting progressively angrier with me.
"So anyways, who would I sacrifice... I think I would have to say Mitya, because he is only going to be a pawn for Red Infinity anyways. Maybe me sacrificing him before he can get indoctrinated will do him a favor."
I say, with a strangely calm tone of voice.
"The next question is for you. If you lost your powers, if you joined our lowely ranks, became a sheep, became mortal... If you knew that someone around you could potentially be equally as, if not more powerful than yourself... Would you adopt a moral compass?"

"If I lost my powers I would kill myself. I could not last a day without my power. So no. I would not change. I would become depressed and die."
Kaschei takes another drink.
"If I told you I was leaving you in this time forever, what would you do?" He smiles extra large after this question and grabs his staff of ages.

I think of Valodya, the rebels, Red Infinity, and everybody and everything else that I would be leaving behind. Then I think of Mitya.
"I would make the best of it, and raise Mitya myself."

Kaschei sets his staff down. "Do you loathe me completely?"

I make eye contact with the demon, then back at Kaschei.
"No. My hatred of you is about equal to my fear. Right now, the alcohol is the only thing allowing me to speak so frankly to you." I say, taking another drink. "You don't need the demon, just buy me a bottle of vodka."
I look back at the demon. He stares at me, even if I ask Kaschei a question. What the hell is that about??
"Okay, another question. Is there anybody in the universe that you care about, or respect?"

The sorcerer laughs at his discomfort, which was the point of that question.
"Yes, I care about my dragon Machiavelli and that vampire wench Kaieka. I also care about Jareth. I respect Lin-Sat, but fear no one."

I smirk, then finish my drink.
"I don't know if you've ever felt fear, but you'll know it after the revolution."
I slam my glass on the table, starting to feel tipsy. I decide not to drink anymore, as I'm at my peak level of coherency right now.
"Although I must say, I know you must despise me as much as I do you, but I'm actually enjoying this little chat we're having right now. Maybe it's the alcohol, but you remind me of a few mortals I know, your sense of humor at least."
