"Indeed it is. At least there are part of this world that are like enough to home that I can feel better sometimes. If I go far enough into the pine forests I sometimes think I'm back in the Hidden Village training with Master. Pine trees are my favorite."
He watches Illidan on the grass, crawling about, examining everything with curious eyes. He makes a mental note to make sure he puts all his tools under lock and key.
"Such an unlikely end to a meeting. Remember when we first met? It was nearly two years ago now. We met out in the woods, alot like these, in the middle of the night." Kakashi sits down on the grass and leans back, "We've both changed alot since then."

I sit down next to Kakashi, leaning against the trunk of the same tree.
"I remember.
Yes, things have changed, quite a bit."
I used to be so self assured. I used to know what I wanted out of life, now I seem to be thrown in the middle somewhere, just trying to grab ahold of something familiar. I have changed, o how I have changed.
"It is funny how time can change things and yet the memory remains intact."
I close my eyes and lean my head back against the rough bark of the pine. I'm sure that were it warmer out, sap would find its way to cling in my hair, but as it is, it is cool enough that there is no threat of such things. I stick my hands out from under the folds of the quilt and feel the carpet of pine needles on the ground where I sit. I prick the tips of my fingers with them, and shift them from place to place.

"Yeah, I got a message from Kaschei today saying that I could either work at the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Information. I guess I will have to go down and see what each of them is like."

"Excellent. I can go into town tommorrow and see if I can find some work. Of course, I'll have to pretend to be human, but that shouldn't be too hard."

"Sure, if you can tuck in those large, pointed ears of yours," I reach up and flick him on his ear with my fingers, "or somehow cover up that long, blonde hair. Humans don't have beautiful, shining hair like yours, theirs is all short cropped and cottony. And you better not look anyone in the eye either, humans eyes don't shine like Elf eyes do. But people hire elves all the time, I suppose. Look at me, practically employed."

Kakashi shivers for a moment when Fascia flicks his ear. "Ya, but your employed by the government. They know about us. Normal humans are in the dark. You make a good point though... maybe I should look for government work."

"That's a wonderful idea. There are two Ministries in town. We could even work together, then I would get to see you all the ti..."
I remember that we have a child and that we probably won't be able to work the same shifts, so that there is always one of us with Illidan.
"No, I suppose we wouldn't be able to work together, not the same shifts anyways. We need to think of this little one now."
I feel a little deflated. In my mind, working with Kakashi seemed like such a wonderful idea, the two of us together all the time. But then again, who's to say that he would want to be with me all of the time. Actually, he is doing me a great favor even letting me stay at his home, I shouldn't think to impose further by threatening to be near him the entire day long. But still, working for the government is a good idea. It has its perks.
"We could both go in tomorrow, since I need to see the Ministries and have the transfer go through."

I sit absolutely still for a moment and stare straight ahead. Of course. Of course the government has daycare. How could I be so stupid. I think that Kaschei even mentioned it in his message. My body relaxes after the innitial shock of my stupidity, and I smile.
"Yes, I believe they do have daycare. I must have forgotten about it. I suppose I have never had a child to think about before."
I lean my head back against the tree again, feeling very happy. It isn't that I don't love my child. It isn't that I don't want to spend time with him, but the idea of being with a child every hour of every day is a little overwhelming. I am glad that there will be a little respite from the day-to-day workings of motherhood.

I smile again and pull the blanket up near my chin.
"That would be nice."
I have been smiling often since having these two fine men back in my life. I sneak a glance at Kakashi. His bright hair falling over his shoulders, his light skin reflecting the light... he truly is a beautiful elf. I look away again, burying my chin in the soft folds of the blue quilt.
