My vision of angels for this is slightly different than the typical angel.
In this game, angels can appear as humans, but in angelic form, have up to three sets of wings and markings on their face and body. Thus, they are very stunning in their ultimate form.
Angels come from the Manala Tree, which created the angels, gods, spirits, and hiredugarn as well as other supernatural beings. The manala tree is the source of all spiritual energy in the universe. Some call it Chakra, Chi, Ki, mana, manitou, or manala energy...but it is all the same. Since the gods and angels are born directly from the tree, they have the highest concentration of Manala Energy.
Upon this giant conifer tree grows crystals, pinecones, and multicolored fruit. The crystals, known as Suisho, evolve into angels.
Angels are unique in that they have a Suisho embedded in their chest. A suisho is a crystal which contains all of their soul energy. To remove the suisho, kills the angel.
On the topic of Suisho, many humans hunt angels to obtain these rare a powerful crystals. Despite this, as long as the crystal remains unbroken, the crystal will re-evolve into an angel.
