It's Kaworu Nagisa, the fifth child and the 17th Angel who piloted Eva-02 when Asuka lost it. He then revealed himself as the 17th angel and forced Shinji to kill him. He's also in the End of Evangelion movie and it's been proven that all of the dumby plug units that were used to pilot Eva units 5-13 were clones of Kaworu, like the dumby plug clones of Rei Ayanami. While Kaworu was the 17th angel, he was also SEELE's version of Rei Ayanami. While Rei was formed from Lilith, Kaworu was formed from Adam. They are both albino and were created by means other than natural birth. Most importantly, Kaworu became Shinji's good friend, and his relationship with Shinji symbolized the relationship that Shinji wished to have with his father-which was brought to my attention in the Director's Cut version, when it is said that Kaworu was formed from Adam's spirit and Gendo Ikari was formed from Adam's body..... really confusing stuff, but interesting as hell.
