Bassarov and Mischa walk along the trail, the day is pleasant, though the sun is much brighter than Bassarov prefers.
"You don't seem very happy with your girlfriend. Why are you with her?"

Bassarov turns and sees the girl. He is not sure who she is, but her resemblance to Bassarov is uncanny.
"I don't think we have met. Who are you?"

Bassarov was caught off guard, having no idea that he would confront his so called clone in the midst of the machine fight, or that this clone was somehow related to his relationship with Kaieka.

Long story short, she ended up leaving me without any closure, and I ended up so flustered and desperate, that Tanya seemed like someone I wanted to be with."
The walk is beautiful. I look out over the horizon, and realize that my happiness is inversely proportional to my distance from Tanya.

Bassarov laughs.
"No, I don't like to be tied down. I would rather be alone and miserable than tied to someone I don't care for."
He laughs again.
"Though I am never miserable when I am alone, since I happen to like being alone. It helps me know who I am and what I want out of life. Also...relationships are messy. I would rather just avoid that whole mess and make romance and sex a leisure activity, like I don't know...reading or going to the symphony."
He turns towards Mischa, and then back at the trail.
"Oh, have you ever been with another man before?"

Bassarov laughs as if its a joke. "Of course. I think I have been with someone of every race and gender that walks this planet."
He then realizes that it was not.
"Well, people gravitate to me since, people like people who have direction. If you know where you are going and what you want it is only natural that people follow."
